New Delhi railway station getting free Wi-Fi service soon
Indian Railways is going to provide free Wi-Fi to its travellers at the New Delhi railway station after successful trails of such a service on Howrah Rajdhani express.
Confirmed by a railway official, the new service will be run as a pilot program. Once the project is successful other stations in the capital will be Wi-Fi enabled as well. The project is estimated to be completed within the next three to four months.
“Once operational, passengers on all the 16 platforms will be able to access the internet through Wi-Fi services, which will cost the Ministry about Rs.80 lakh. The station was selected on a pilot basis and once the experiment is successful, other railway stations in the Capital will also be Wi-Fi enabled,” confirmed a railway official to The Hindu.
Tenders were invited for the project, which was then allotted to a Mumbai based company. No further details about the terms of the tender or the service have been revealed at the moment.
