Samsung outs blazing fast SSDs for enterprise storage needs
Samsung has announced its new eco-friendly storage solution for enterprises – a 2.5-inch solid state drive (SSD) that possesses rather astonishingly high sequential and random read performance over currently available drives with a similar specification.
Dubbed NVM Express (NVMe) XS1715, the solid state drive is available in three different storage sizes – 400GB, 800GB, and 1.6TB. According to the South Korean consumer electronics giant, the top-end 1.6TB model boasts of “a sequential read speed at 3,000MB/s, which allows it to process 500GB of data (equivalent to 100 Full HD movies 5GB in length) in less than three minutes.”
By comparison, the new SSDs are 14 times faster than HDDs available today of the same / equivalent specification and around 6 times faster than Samsung’s own SSD storage solution.
Samsung further revealed that the random read performance of the XS1715 has dramatically improved as well. Maximum read performance of the new SSDs stand at 740,000 input-output operations per second (IOPS) making it 10 times faster than “existing high-end SSD storage options,” said Samsung.
The company has said that it will continue to develop more SSD solutions using its NVMe specification to launch products with “increasingly high performance levels” that would be greener because they would consume lower power.
