One of India’s most successful streaming music service Dhingana is gearing up towards monetization drive by launching Dhingana Gold – its first subscription service meant for iOS users.

Priced at $1.99 a month, Dhingana Gold will include premium features such as ad-free service, allow users to download and sync unlimited songs, provide access to HD music streaming at up to 320 kbps and enable users to sync downloads across up to two devices. Users with data caps would find the subscription service helpful as they would be able to access the music offline.

The first monetization attempt from Dhingana was through setup of its advertising platform and had said at the time that nearly 80% of its revenue will be coming from advertisements while the rest will be coming from subscription services. Dhingana has said that the next phase of its “three-pronged” monetization strategy would be to provide subscription services to its Android users along with option for mobile operator billing.


The service started back in 2007 and in the first two years embarked upon creating content as well as establishing a strong user base. There is no information about its current user base but as of October 2012, Dhingana has over 15 million monthly active users.
