Videocon has reduced GPRS data rates in 5 of its circles of Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh by as much as 90 per cent.

Earlier the data rates for GPRS were 10paise/10KB and after the rate cuts, the new base rate stand at 1 paisa/10 KB. The new rates will apply to all those users who haven’t subscribed to any data packs or have exceeded their free bundled allowance in their respective data packs and will be applicable from first week of this month. For example if you have subscribed to a 512MB plan, anything beyond the free 512MB will be charged at 1p/10KB.

“This 90 percent tariff reduction will help increase data penetration across segments, which will translate into stronger benefits for the brand and will help us engage more subscribers in coming times”, said Arvind Bali, Director and CEO, Videocon Mobile.

Videocon’s move follows data rate cuts by Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Tata DoCoMo.
