Airtel subscribers to get free access to Google services
Airtel has partnered with Google to provide its customers in India with free access to mobile web search, feature-phone-friendly version of Gmail as well as its social network Google+.
The service dubbed Free Zone will give access to mobile web search powered by Google as well as other services for free thereby making the web accessible and affordable to mobile users in India notes Airtel in a press release.
Airtel users will have unlimited access to Gmail from their mobile browser however they would need to have a data package subscription if they want to access any attachment that came along with the email. If in case users don’t have any subscription, clicking on a link to download the attachment would direct them to a page where they can subscribe to a data package.
Using Google+ users can share online photos and messages with circles of family, selected friends or the public. They can also follow updates on the things that interest them like cricket, photography, music, news; and even follow people they’re interested in.
While using Google search for mobile, they will have access to the first page of websites from the results for free. In case users don’t have a subscription package and they click further into a website after that they will be redirected to a page where they can purchase a data package.
To access the service Airtel mobile subscribers can navigate to www.airtel.in/freezone and start using the Internet without having to sign in to the service.
