Idea joins 2G rate cuts bandwagon, slashes rates by 90%

First Vodafone then Airtel and now Idea has slashed its pricing for 2G data and subscribers are in for a massive treat. Idea Cellular has announced that it is cutting down its 2G data rates by as much as 90 per cent in eight circles with more to follow suite.
Idea will implement the revised rates in Assam, Bihar, Karnataka, Kolkata, North East, Orissa, Tamil Nadu & Chennai and West Bengal circles. In a canned statement the company said, “Idea Cellular has revised data tariff in eight circles across the country users can now access data for 2 paise/10 KB, which is a 90 percent reduction in the existing tariff of 2 paise/KB.”
Vodafone cut data rates for its pre-paid and post-paid subscribers in three circles followed by Airtel which slashed its 2G data rates in Punjab and Haryana. Airtel is now charging 1p/10KB whereas Vodafone is charging 2p/10KB.
Idea added that the rate cuts are applicable to all subscribers who use data on pay-as-you-go basis and will be effective from July 1, 2013 with the offer being and the offer will be valid for 90 days.
“The new data rate will be automatically implemented for all Idea 2G postpaid subscribers in these markets, effective July 1 prepaid users can avail the new rate with a value recharge priced between Rs. 5-10,” the statement read further.
